New task force to help people get to grips with recycling

Warwickshire Waste Partnership has enlisted the help of a public engagement agency to encourage residents in the district to get to grips with recycling.

Over the next fortnight agents from EnviroCommsECC will be visiting homes in the district to ensure that householders have all the information and equipment they need to make the most of their kerbside collection service.

Staring from today (Monday) the ‘doorstepping’ taskforce will work its way across low participation hotspots in the Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth area.

Cllr Jeff Clarke, chair of Warwickshire Waste Partnership, said: “There are several reasons why residents aren’t recycling as much as they could – from newcomers to an area being unfamiliar with the local collection regime or a lack of awareness of the environmental and economic benefits of recycling.

“Helping residents put the right materials in the right bin could save Warwickshire tax payers more than £4 million, and help us achieve a county-wide recycling rate of 65 per cent by 2020.”

EnviroCommsECC agents will wear distinctive uniforms and carry official identification.

Interviews will be conducted on the doorstep – with no need to enter a resident’s home.

EnviroComms is also working with other local authorities within Warwickshire and the complete countywide exercise will finish at the end of November.
