A familiar sequence of events

Well, well, well, well. Who would have thought it? The company which promised so much to get planning permission to develop the old Ford foundry site suddenly discovers (only months later) that it can’t do it any more. Gosh. That must be unprecedented!

My, if this became common practice there’d be no point in having planning applications would there, as it would mean you can promise anything you like, and accept any restrictions placed by the council, and then later just ignore the agreement.

Surely that would never happen? I mean, it’s never happened before has it?

Curiously the same is happening in Stratford with the old cattle market by the station – suddenly the developers can no longer do what they got planning permission for (eg no affordable housing), and want to do something that they never got approval for in the first place. My word, what a strange world.

I’m sure the planning committees will simply make them adhere to the original plans? Surely?

I don’t think I’d place a bet on it. - Dr John M Gledhill, Valletta Way, Wellesbourne.
