Answer is to raise schools’ standards

Satts is a pressure group whose views, as evidenced by the recent council consultation, are not shared by the majority.

The issues involved are complex but essentially come down to a choice; who has the greater right to a place at a school of their choice?

A child who lives in the catchment area, or one whose parents may live a considerable distance away but who have chosen to put an older sibling into the school by taking up a place when one has become available, often mid-year?

Satts’ position is very understandable but someone is going to be disappointed.

The solution really is to make sure that all our schools offer a good level of education to avoid this kind of competition, isn’t it?
