Appalled by low turn out for parade

COPY of a letter sent to Warwick Town Council:

I would just like to say how appalled I was at the low turn out of Warwick residents to the Freedom parade last Friday.Speaking to friends and neighbours it soon became evident that the reason for this was the lack of publicity and your office must take most of the responsibility for that.Having spoken to local newspapers they too were in the dark about the event until the very last minute

Many troops from Marlborough Barrack have lost their lives throughout the world engaged on battlefields and I am appalled that the parade seemed to have been a ‘jolly’ for local dignitaries with little respect shown for the Regiment.

For the mayor to use the Union Flag as a ‘ fashion statement’ is absolutely sick on such an ocassion without thought for the men and women who have lost their lives ‘representing’ the flag and all it stands for. Looking forward to your reply. - Colin Matthews, Warwick resident, via email.
