Fuel tax rises are fleecing the public
Fuel tax rises are the norm following any budget simply because its easy for the government to impose these increases on a captive audience.
Put fuel costs up and everything else goes up which, of course, adds to the VAT rake off as well. Incidentally I’m surprised that this government did not increase VAT as well! I would like to have thought that our politicians would have looked a little more kindly on their voters during these awful economic constraints and made savings from other areas such as foreign aid instead of, as ever, fleecing the great British public.
Fuel tax increases are avoidable, especially considering that as EEC members we are paying far more for our fuel than any other European Community country. Why? Is it because this government needs the money by the easiest method to buy a train that very few of us seem to want? - Bob Shakespeare, via email.
