Puzzled by bowls chief’s claims

In last week’s Courier, Bowls England chief executive Tony Allcock stated that “...contrary to reports, representatives of Bowls England have previously met with the Friends of Victoria Park and Warwick District Council at joint meetings…’.

The Friends are puzzled by this because:

The Friends of Victoria Park have never attended a joint meeting with Bowls England

We did see Operational Services Manager Alistair Hollis at a ‘drop-in’ session organised by WDC in July 2013. Alistair was very approachable but did not seem empowered to discuss the issue of parking in Victoria Park

Over the past 14 months, the Friends have also held six meetings with WDC officials and Councillors. But Bowls England did not attend any of these meetings though all were held at Riverside House where Bowls England enjoy their rent-free Head Office

Mr Allcock told local radio on 1st August that he ‘absolutely’ refused to meet with the Friends, thereby repeating the rebuff to our meeting request given by the Bowls England Chair last November

Victoria Park bowling greens have provided a fine venue for Bowls England’s National Championships. But, supported by 1,500 signatories to our petition and therefore representing a sizeable chunk of the local community, we would still like to meet with Bowls England to discuss means of moving cars out of Leamington’s most popular Park in August.
