Redirect HS2 through Clarendon Square?

Jan Gillett casually dismisses “the “few” whose lives will be ruined by HS2. I am surprised he does not bring in the remark, probably one of Stalin’s favourites, stating that “you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs”.

He lives, I notice, in Clarendon Square. Perhaps I will write to the Department of Transport suggesting that the route would be much improved if it went slap bang through Napoleon III’s house.

Why not? Napoleon III is dead and only a “few” people live in Clarendon Square.

He makes great play with bringing certain areas “closer to their markets”. Could he tell us how many of the 14 trains per hour in each direction, each with up to 1,100 seats, each travelling at 225 mph, will be goods trains? - R.P. Taylor, St Mary’s Terrace, Leamington.
