Silent over arcade

So Leamington apparently has a conservation officer – Alan Mayes – who, according to ‘Nostalgia’ last week, is thankful that war-time plans to demolish parts of the town did not come to fruition thus leaving us with ‘many of the towns most beautiful buildings’.

Why then is he silent on the Clarendon Arcade debate? What is the point in having a paid ‘Conservation Officer’ who, if Google is to be believed, does not actively promote ‘conservation’? - Anne Piper, via email.
