Thanks should go to Cllr Holland

Your front page main article (Warwick Courier June 21) “We got it wrong!” highlights the reinstatement of the much needed pelican crossing in Jury Street/High Street.

For many months, people who have visual impairments; wheelchair users; parents with pushchairs have found crossing these roads unsafe. The decision by the county council to reinstate the pelican crossing is therefore welcomed. However, your article fails to mention the name of one individual who has worked and campaigned tirelessly, alongside Guide Dogs and RNIB, to have this crossing reinstated - councillor John Holland.

Cllr Holland, with Guide Dogs and RNIB, have been working for months to have the crossing reinstated. Together, they been featured in the Courier some months previously when the issue was first raised. Since his election, Cllr Holland has made it his priority to have the county council’s decision overturned and the crossing reinstated.

It seems that there are certain individuals who have “jumped on the bandwagon” and seem to be claiming credit for this particular victory, when really Cllr Holland, Guide Dogs and the RNIB are the ones who have truly championed this cause on behalf of Warwick and the local people of Warwick.
