The answer is blowing in the wind

I read with interest the article about Mrs Alty and her wind turbine (‘How many watts did turbine generate? Courier last week). The article obviously begs the question - how many watts did the turbine actually generate?

According to Green activist Mrs Alty, the turbine was installed as a way of “giving the public some real and unchallengeable figures on electricity generated”. That is what she wrote in a letter to the Courier on, January 16 2008. So where are these figures?

The experiment was apparently abandoned because “the conditions have to be right for it (the turbine) to work properly”. In other words the wind has to blow at the right time and in the right direction!

I note that Mrs. Alty is now installing solar panels. I do hope she has better luck with these. Having said that, don’t be surprised to read in a couple of years’ time that these have been taken down due to a lack of sun! - Barry McLoughlin, Spring Pool, Warwick.
