These people are not wanted here

Through your letters page I would like to see if there would be interest from Leamington, Whitnash, Kenilworth and Warwick residents in holding an event in the future in the beautiful Jephson Gardens.

The event I am proposing is one where people can turn up, break down the fencing around the gardens which you would feel is criminal damage, drive over plants, camp for several days in cars or vans, intimidate people, overflow parking wherever you like and use anywhere they like to defecate and urinate. You would even be allowed to leave without any need to clear up after yourself as measures are already in place for this - i.e. the council will do this free of charge! In fact bring any old rubbish with you from home or work and just leave it!

Of course I am not really planning an event like this as any easy target mug who did and who is part of society, and not just when it suits, would be rounded up and arrested immediately with the full force of the law and rightly so.

What I am sarcastically talking about is the constant visiting of the local area by gypsies and no action being taken against them by the politically correct authorities. At time of writing they have been on the fields of Harbury Lane and there is a large encampment on the ground next to Nuffield Health where the fence has been ripped down to allow access.

The industrial estate off Tachbrook Park Drive has just been regularly left as a tipping area and I feel sorry for the poor people who are trying to run businesses there and go to work there every day.

I am all for people who want to live an alternative lifestyle but in living that lifestyle they must not be allowed to get away with things for which other people would be arrested. The authorities need to start permanently removing any vehicles that do not have tax, insurance, or MOT; prosecuting gypsy encampments that cause criminal damage to gain entry to land or leave waste of all types behind and park up in places where the general population would be prosecuted.

Let’s talk in simple but plain English - these people are not wanted around here or anywhere else and if they do want to camp somewhere they should be made to buy the land and follow the correct planning laws for setting up and running camps, the same as anyone else would have to do and not the debacle that has been allowed to happen in Beausale. The local councils should certainly not be obliged to set up camps for them.

Now I know that this letter is not politically correct but I am just saying what a lot of people think and if there are any liberal readers out there who feel I am being a little harsh then you can solve the problem by inviting them to live with you! - Name and address supplied.
