Will works protect us from river floods?
The water company promises that these new sewers will prevent the risk of sewer flooding in heavy rain, but it would be comforting to hear that the sewers and drains might also offer some protection from river flooding. This present dry spell will eventually end and when the rains come there will be a lot more surface water than we need. Can we hope that as a reward for all the roadworks we can feel confident that if and when the Leam repeats its great flood of Easter 1998 Old Town’s streets, shops and houses stay dry? - Jeremy D Lampitt.
