Organisers say the event - which included musical theatre and singing performances, French boules demonstrations, skittles, a grand raffle and a lot of cake - has raised “well over” £2,000 for St Michael and All Angels church in the village, which is in need of structural repair.

There was also a children’s scarecrow-themed fancy dress competition - judged by BBC Midlands Today presenter Sarah Falkland - and a hog roast in the evening.

Among them is Gillian Ingham, who said: “We had an excellent turn-out and it was a beautiful day. As late as the end of the week, we didn’t have anyone confirmed to provide cakes to sell, so we put out a plea - and in the end we were overwhelmed by the spread we got. But we sold them all.

“As well as people from Ufton and surrounding villages, we had visitors from Southam and Leamington.

“The spot on the hill is a magnificient position. A lot of people just enjoyed sitting with their cream tea and taking in the view.”
