Owner of hanged cat comes forward

THE owner of the cat, which the Courier last week reported had been found hanged, has come forward.

Tragically the owner did not know the fate of the young female cat, Sharpay, until reading it in the newspaper and has since contacted the RSPCA to confirm she belonged to them.

Two-year-old Sharpay was much loved, and the owner, who had owned her since she was a kitten, described her as ‘a friendly, loving cat’.

They are still too upset to speak to the media, but said in a statement released through the RSPCA: “I cannot believe someone could do that to an animal.”

Sharpay was last month found hanging from a fence in Kempton Drive, just off the Emscote Road by a cleaner. The black and white cat had been strung up by a long white shoe lace, and RSPCA animal welfare officer (AWO) Jayne Fuller believes she was still alive when the hung her.

Information has now come forward that gangs of youths have been seen in the area. Anyone with further information is urged to call the RSPCA national cruelty and advice line on 0300 1234 999 leaving a message for AWO Jayne Fuller.
