A competition is due to be launched to name Leamington's Peregrine chicks.

Since the beginning of March this year, thousands of people have been watching lives of the Peregrine Falcons nesting in Leamington's Town Hall.

Through the two webcams on Warwickshire Wildlife Trust and Warwick District Council’s websites, people from across the UK and beyond have been able to watch exciting moments from the eggs being laid, then hatching and now the chicks being fed and growing every day.

More than 130,000 people have now watched the Peregrines as they get ready to fledge in a few weeks’ time.

The chicks have now been successfully ringed and, once again, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust will be running a naming competition for the three special birds.

The competition will run in June on social media.

Philippa Arnold, membership engagement officer at Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, said: “We are currently waiting for confirmation of the sex of the three chicks.

"Despite original thoughts from the ringer, we are waiting for clarification on how many males and females we actually have.

"Then we will launch the naming competition and I look forward to everyone’s entries.”

The competition will be launched on the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust's Facebook page, Twitter (@WKWT) and Instagram (WarwickshireWT).

All entries will be considered for the shortlist by the partners involved in the project: Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, Warwick District Council, the Peregrine webcam volunteer team, Lockwoods of Leamington who sponsor the webcams and Focus Optics.

The public will then have a chance to vote for their favourite names and the winner announced.
