Council’s Shielding Hub preparing food boxes for distribution across Warwick district over bank holiday

It will be business as usual on Bank Holiday Monday for staff at Warwick District Council’s Shielding Hub as they prepare food boxes for distribution.

Around 30 staff have been working in partnership with Warwickshire County Council with support from community and voluntary groups in a district-wide operation.

This week around 230 boxes containing essentials including milk, eggs, tea, coffee, ready meals, tins, vegetables and pasta were prepared and sent to residents who have made contact with the local authorities advising that they need assistance.

Cllr Andrew Day, leader of Warwick District Council, called on more people to make use of the service.

He said: “I would like to pay tribute to the council’s team for their achievements in setting up this vital operation in a very short period of time.

“We now have the resources in place to expand the service beyond those identified on the

government’s NHS Shielding List. I would therefore urge those who are, or know of someone who is vulnerable and self-isolating, to make contact either through their GP or by contacting either the district or county council using the dedicated telephone numbers.”
