CPR techniques and the use of defibrillators were demonstrated to a group of the Tiltyard's regulars and other members of the public.

Seringa Dudley, a Kenilworth HeartSafe trustee and leader of the training session, said “New CPR guidelines have been issued by the Resuscitation Council UK to protect everyone during these Covid 19 times.

"Chest compressions remain the core of CPR training but 'rescue breaths' are no longer advised in out of hospital settings.

"We have adapted our training sessions to reflect this and also have moved to a demonstration-only format rather than hands-on training to ensure the sessions comply with Covid-safe regulations and clinical best practice."

Nicky Schofield, fellow Trustee and co trainer, said “Our aim is to maximise the number of people in our community who will be equipped to help save a life should they ever find themselves faced with such a stressful situation.

"Attendance at a 30 minute training session is all that it takes to equip you with those invaluable lifesaving skills.

"A very small investment of time for a massive potential impact on someone’s life expectancy.”

AJ, proprietor of the Tiltyard pub, attended the session and said: “We are delighted to host a 24/7 publicly available Defibrillator at The Tiltyard and although I hope it never has to be used in anger it is essential that we know how to deploy it if the need does arise.

"I was amazed to learn that the chances of a life being saved after a cardiac arrest increased from 10 per cent to 70 per cent if CPR and Defibrillation is successfully applied immediately the incident occurs.”
