GCSE Results Day 2023: Pupils at schools in and around Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth open their results

Pupils at secondary schools in and around Leamington, Warwick, Kenilworth and Southam have been receiving their GCSE results this morning.

Thousands of Warwickshire pupils will be celebrating today as they receive their GCSE results, which are the culmination of hard work after a few difficult years.

We will update this article as schools send their results in throughout the day.

Kenilworth School

Pupils at Kenilworth School and Sixth Form have been praised for their results after going through the disruptions of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This will also be an end of an era for the school as in September it will move to it new site in Glasshouse Lane.

Executive Headteacher at Kenilworth School and Sixth Form, Hayden Abbott, said: “I am delighted that year 11 students at Kenilworth School and Sixth Form achieved a very strong set of GCSE results.

“Students have worked hard to achieve these results over the last few years and they should be very proud of their efforts and noteworthy successes.

"It is a credit to them that they have achieved successes that compare well with the excellent achievements of previous cohorts of students.

"82 per cent of students achieved passes at grades 4 to 9, including English and Maths, and an incredible 25 per cent of exams taken were awarded the top grades 7 to 9.

"To have achieved these results after disruptions to their education during the pandemic is highly impressive and shows our students' resilience and commitment to their studies.

"The results of our year 11 students mark the end of the current era on the Leyes Lane site and these students will have a different, but no less enriching, post 16 experience at our new school on Glasshouse Lane.

"All students and staff should be congratulated on this exam success.”

Campion School

Pupils in Key Stage 4 at Campion school have been also been praised for performing well in their results – with the vast majority set to do further studies in the school’s sixth form.

Jassa Panesar, Headteacher, said: “I would like to congratulate our Year 11 pupils who have worked hard and consistently all year and fully deserve these excellent results.

"Our families and staff have worked incredibly hard to support our children and I would like to thank them all. It has not been an easy few years for all.

"However, our community is strong, resilient and always works as a team. Well done to all.”

Peter Forsey, Deputy Headteacher, who is responsible for pupil achievement at the school, added: “I am very proud of the hard work and attitude of our students during the last few years of their GCSE courses and at how they have reacted to the many challenges they faced.

"This year group has produced some of the highest results we have seen at Campion and their grades are well deserved.

"They should be very proud of their successes, and I know they will go on to even greater achievements in years to come.”

Arnold Lodge School

Arnold Lodge School (ALS) in Leamington says it is delighted with another year of excellent results for its GCSE pupils.

Of all grades awarded, 25 per cent were 7 to 9, with 48 per cent at grade 6 or higher. Pupils at ALS achieved 82 per cent A* to A in languages (covering Spanish, Chinese, German and French) and 50 per cent achieved A*/A in the separate sciences.

Among the individual successes were Ava Casson, who achieved 9,8,8,8,8,8,7,7,7 and will continue at ALS Sixth Form to study English Literature, Business and Psychology, Tudor Ganea-Arnold who achieved 9,9,9,9,9,8,8,8,8 and will study Computer Science, Physics and Mathematics at ALS Sixth Form and Arjun Kumaran who achieved 9,9,9,9,8,8,8,7,6 and will go on to study the Sciences.

Headteacher, David Preston, said: “We are incredibly proud of the hard work of all our pupils this year, but particularly our GCSE cohort.

"The fantastic set of results today are testament to the sustained commitment shown by our Year 11 to their studies over a difficult two years.

"Considering the return of results back to pre-pandemic levels, this marks a particularly impressive performance from ALS pupils.”

“I am looking forward to seeing many of our pupils continuing their studies on A Level or BTEC courses next year as members of the ALS Sixth Form.”

“The whole ALS school community, including our parents, teachers and pupils will, I’m sure, join me in congratulating our GCSE pupils on their results.”

Princethorpe College

Princethorpe College says it is celebrating a strong set of GCSE results.

From a cohort of 159 pupils, 42 per cent of all entries were the coveted 9, 8 or 7 grades, with 16 pupils achieving all 9, 8 or 7 grades.

Headmaster, Grove du Toit said: “I would like to congratulate all of our Year 11 pupils.

"I am delighted with the excellent results they have achieved in spite of the unprecedented challenges and disruption to their learning of the last few years; it is a privilege to be amongst so many happy pupils this morning and to be able to celebrate each individual success.

"We are of course delighted with the high number of top grades, but we are proud of all our pupils who have worked hard and done their very best.

"Whilst their results are important, this year group have also demonstrated many fine qualities worth celebrating, such as kindness, respect, determination and friendship.”

“All credit goes to our pupils and staff for their commitment and hard work.

"The College goes from strength to strength, and we look forward to welcoming the vast majority of this cohort back into our successful Sixth Form for the next stage of their education.”

Southam College

Southam College are also celebrating ‘strong performances’ of Year 11 pupils this year, with 74 per cent of students achieving Grades 4 and above in both English and Maths and nearly one in every six students achieving Grades 7 and above in both English and Maths.

The College said that while all students have made excellent individual achievements, with challenging years in their secondary school career, particular mentions go to;

Kate Middleton-Mai, Grace Stephens, Chloe Stretton, Erin Bradley, Lauren Brierley, and Zoe Sayers who all achieved six or more Grade 9’s in their GCSEs.

The College also wanted to highlight some pupils for ‘exceptional progress’ over their time in secondary school. This went to Sophie Hancock, Daniela Sasu, Charlotte Hilton, Phoebe Adams, Katie Davies, Isabel Mur, Ruby Markham, Aisha Zak and Alex Stephen.

Headteacher, Miss Mason, said: “ I am extremely proud of our Year 11 students this year, there are so many well-deserved results which will open doors to the next stage of these young people’s education and career pathways.”

Myton School

Pupils at Myton School have also been opening their results today.

Andy Perry, Head Teacher at Myton School said: “Congratulations to our Year 11 students on achieving some excellent GCSE results.

"In a challenging year where grade boundaries revert to pre-pandemic levels, we are delighted that a third of our students achieved a grade 7, 8 or 9 in English and a quarter in Maths.

"With around 75 per cent of our students achieving a grade 4 or better in both English and Maths there are lots of very happy young people enrolling into our Sixth Form and into post-16 courses elsewhere.

"We are very proud of the students and wish them well.

“Whilst we congratulate all of our students, special mentions go to Keira Howden and Elise Middleton-Shah, who each achieved 7 grade 9s and 1 grade 8 in their subjects, and Rhiannon Hewitt, Xavier Jethwa and Nell Baynham, who achieved 5 grade 9s.”

Aylesford School

Aylesford School says it is very proud of the year 11 students and all they have achieved in their GCSE exams. Staff have spent the morning with students and their parents, celebrating their successes.

Anna Scopes, Deputy Headteacher at Aylesford School, said: “This cohort of students have worked incredibly hard to achieve a good set of GCSE and BTEC grades which are strongly deserved; the results are a testament to the ambition and resilience these students have displayed throughout the pandemic disruptions.

"Their time at Aylesford has ensured that these students are fully prepared to take their next steps into further education.

"We look forward to welcoming many of them into our Sixth Form in September and for those that have chosen vocational courses at colleges or apprenticeships, we wish all these students all the best for their future.”

Kineton High School

Kineton High School has congratulated all its Year 11 students on their GCSEs.

Their results are a testament to their hard effort and determination throughout a period of challenge and disruption and in a year when grade boundaries have been adjusted to 2019 levels.

On basic measures, nearly half of all students gained a strong pass in English and Maths and three quarters gained a standard pass in both. Pleasingly, over a fifth all grades awarded were grades 9-7 or equivalent and the school’s vocational results were the best they’ve ever been.

Headteacher, Helen Bridge said: “I’m so proud of our students this year.

"I was disappointed in the decision to take grade boundaries in England back to 2019 levels as the significant challenges faced by this year group through the Covid era and since, had the potential to seriously affect students’ next steps.

"However, we are positive that our cohort will be able to enter their destinations of choice with such strong outcomes.”

The school said there were many amazing results where individual students did incredibly well in the face of adversity.

Outstanding grades highlighted by the school include; D’Arcy Charles (seven grade 9s, one grade 8, one grade 7); Bea Scorer (five grade 9s, four grade 8s); Krisha Bawa (three grade 9s, five grade 8s, two grade 7s); Xanthippe Morley (two grade 9s, seven grade 8s, two grade 7s); Charlotte Elliot (four grade 9s, two grade 8s, two grade 7s) ; Martha Wainwright (two grade 9, three grade 8s, four grade 7s); Joe Sparkes (five grade 9s, two grade 8s, three grade 7s); Ben Lee L2D* (three grade 8s, four grade 7s one grade 6, one grade 5).

Helen added: “Thanks go to all the staff at the school and parents/carers for their support.

"We hope to see many of our Year 11 back in the sixth form and wish all of them the very best for the future.”

North Leamington School

Pupils at North Leamington School have also been praised for their results.

Mike Lowdell, Head Teacher, said: “We are delighted to share, once again, that our students here at North Leamington School have received fantastic GCSE examination results.

"On behalf of all the staff at North Leamington School, we would like to congratulate each and every one of them, for their hard work and positive attitude throughout the year.

“Despite the national GCSE assessment system fully returning to pre pandemic levels our results, in all main indicators, outperform those achieved in 2019 results.

"61 per cent of students achieved a grade 5 or above in English and Maths, a 7 per cent uplift.

"79 per cent of students achieved grade 4 or above in English and Maths which is up 5 per cent.

"77 per cent of students achieved 5+ grade 4 or above GCSE’s inclusive of English and Maths.

“Once again we would like to thank all the parents and carers for their ongoing support.

"We look forward to working with all those students returning in Year 12 and equally we wish all those who are moving to college courses, apprenticeships and other institutions the best of luck in their future endeavours.”

Matt Atkins, Senior Assistant Headteacher, added: “We are delighted for all of our Y11 students. They have been an absolute pleasure to work alongside.

"Every student has risen to the challenge, whether through courses at GCSE or BTEC.

"It was fantastic to see so many happy students today that can now use this platform of ‘currency gained’ to continue to their preferred chosen Post 16 Pathway.

"Our students have shown the appetite to succeed and will no doubt continue in the same light with their journey of learning, whether through ‘A Levels’ or at College through a range of courses including apprenticeships; we wish all our students the best for the future.

"Enjoy the moment of tonight and the next few days.”

The school also wanted to highlight some pupils who achieved outstanding results.

The following students achieved a number of grade 9s at GCSE (equivalent to A**) in their set of results; Luke Robinson (9 grade 9 results), Oliver Lau (8 grade 9 results), Summer Yao (7 grade 9 results), Freddie Noel-Storr (six grade 9 results), Naomi Archer (five grade 9 results), Martha Curry (five grade 9 results), Beth Jackson (five grade 9 results), Dan Stone (five grade 9 results) and Isabel Taylor (four grade 9 results).

Trinity Catholic School

Pupils at Trinity Catholic School have been celebrating today after they opene d their GCSE results.

Leanne Wale, Principal, said: “We are extremely proud of the determination and resilience shown by students at Trinity Catholic School, and we would like to congratulate them on the results they have achieved.

“There is no shying away from the fact that every year group who have taken their exams over recent years have faced some unique challenges, and the Class of 2023 was no different.

"These students have, however, approached their studies with determination and focus and have grasped the opportunities that have been provided.

“It is also right to acknowledge our staff for their hard work and dedication. They really have gone above and beyond for our students.”

The school wanted to specially mention; Freyja – who achieved a Grade 9 in Chemistry and English Language, Elisa – who achieved a Grade 9 in English Language and Religious Education, Moshe – who achieved a Grade 9 in Mathematics, Chloe, Gwen, Paige and Anna – who achieved a Grade 9 in Art and Design, Johannah – who achieved a Grade 8 in eight subjects, Natalia – who achieved a Grade 8 in five subjects and Chris – who achieved a Grade 9 in one subject and Grade 8 in eight subjects

Other standout performances included; Tania who achieved Grade 9s in Spanish and Portuguese; Rohini who achieved three Grade 9s and six Grade 8s; Emily B who achieved two Grade 9s and four Grade 8s; and Jacob R who achieved two Grade 9s and three Grade 8s.

Two students who have encompassed the school’s values and overcome several challenges are Emme who achieved three Grade 8s, five Grade 7s and two Grade 6s; and Lauryn who improved by two grades across the board in Year 11, finishing with an impressive two Grade 7s and six Grade 6s.

Mrs Wale added: “It is also important to reflect on the huge range of students that we support at Trinity. Every grade really does tell a story, and we have seen students achieve some hugely impressive results – even if they are not necessarily the very top grades.

“Students attending our Specialist Resources Provision ‘Peters Place’, for example, have plenty to be proud of. We have had students achieve a range of really good passes.

“We are also extremely proud of our EMAS programme which supports students from refugee and asylum seeking families to lay initial foundations in their education.

"Students from the EMAS programme have secured remarkable outcomes in the GCSE subjects that they have taken.”

This included Fes, who achieved a Grade 7 in Mathematics and a Grade 6 in Physics and will be going on to study A levels and hopes to study astrophysics in the future, and Shitrah who achieved a Grade 7 in Chemistry and a Grade 6 in Biology, Physics and Mathematics.

She is going on to study A levels and hopes to progress to university to study medicine.
