Hundreds volunteer to help coronavirus support group in Kenilworth

Hundreds of people have put themselves forward as volunteers for the support group set up in Kenilworth to help the most vulnerable people during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Over the weekend, members of the Covid-19 Support Kenilworth Group dropped 10,000 leaflets through doors around the town and more than 316 people responded to offer help.

They are offering help such as delivering food and medicine to old people who are isolated.

People are also sharing useful information such as the priority shopping hours being offered to the elderly and vulnerable by supermarkets in the town.

A Justgiving page set up to help the town's elderly and vulnerable has had more than £1,400 in donations made to it.

Businesses including Ego and The Almanac donated supplies to be delivered by group members before Boris Johnson announced that pubs, cafes restaurants and non-essential shops should close temporarily at the end of last week and on Monday evening.

Darren Rees, of the Kenilworth group, said: "We are helping Kenilworth's elderly and vulnerable group.

"We're trying to put the word out that anyone vulnerable can approach us and we will do what we can to source them some supplies, take them to collect prescriptions and carry out welfare checks if they're isolated."
