A Warwick-based charity is continuing to provide acts of kindness to people in need.

Evelyn's Gift was formed in 2014 to do something positive in memory of Evelyn Smith, who passed away suddenly in September 2013 aged just seven.

The aims of the charity are two fold - to train as many people as possible in CPR and lifesaving skills, and to provide little acts of kindness to people in need.

Despite the pandemic, the charity is continuing to help people across Warwickshire thanks to their supporters.

Helen Smith, Evelyn's mum, said: "We are finding new ways of working so that we can still respond to requests from social services, health professionals, schools and volunteer coordinators from the local Covid-19 support group.

"As a small organisation, we are able to react quickly to help people, sometimes when they need a single act of kindness until other forms of support are available, particularly when their circumstances have suddenly changed.

"In the days leading to the shutdown, we provided a fridge freezer for a family and food vouchers for others, through social services.

"We sent toiletries directly to a brain injury unit that was closed to visitors and toys to McGregor ward that could be gifted to children when the playroom had to be closed.

"We have ordered toiletries for delivery to Helping Hands for distribution to people who were homeless until recently and provided some food towards LWS Night Shelter’s meals.

"We have also issued supermarket vouchers to help a number of families in acute financial difficulty because of the pandemic."

The team at the charity are also grateful to the supporters of the charity.

Helen added: “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of our friends and supporters, and the hard work of our trustees.

"Their donations will allow us to reach more people in need throughout the pandemic and afterwards.

"There are many people suffering from the financial, physical and mental health impact of Covid-19 and we will continue to do what we can to help into the future.”
