Earlier in the year, the charity’s founder Helen Smith met with staff on the ward to hear about their plans to create a relaxation room for patients, and to offer ideas on how to transform the area.

Due to the pandemic, Helen and her team have been unable to visit the hospital, however they continued to donate the money so that the transformation could take place.

Nicky Collis, ward manager on the Willowvale Ward at St Michael’s Hospital, said: “We are extremely grateful to Helen and Evelyn’s Gift for their kind donation.

"Our ward staff have been able to decorate the room and make it a comfortable and relaxing area for our patients, which is much needed at this time.”

Helen Smith, said: “It’s great to be able to spread little acts of kindness and we hope that the new area will make a big difference to patients.”

Evelyn’s Gift was created in memory of seven-year-old Evelyn Smith, who died in 2013 after having a viral and bacterial infection of her upper respiratory tract.

The charity’s aims are two fold - to train as many people as possible in CPR and lifesaving and to also provide little acts of kindness to people in need.
