Warwick pupils get creative with new speed limit signs

A series of 20mph limit have now been put in place in the Chase Meadow area.

The signs include art work by pupils of Aylesford Primary School. Six signs are in place, each with different designs.

Cllr John Holland said: “The children have done a wonderful job designing artwork for our signs.

"Six 20mph signs have been made and they are all different. This is an important contribution to safer routes to school. It is a community project. There is no doubt that reducing speed improves road safety.”

Angelique Edkins, headteacher at Aylesford Primary School, said: “It has been a pleasure to be involved in the ‘Safer Routes to School’ initiative.

"The involvement of our pupils and parents has been a vital part of the process and we are delighted to see the signs in place, promoting a greater awareness of the need to reduce speed and exercise due caution on our roads.”

A spokesperson for Warwickshire County Council said: "This scheme was implemented as part of the Safer Routes to Schools initiative for Aylesford School to reduce speed limits through the estate by implementing traffic calming measures on Tapping Way and Purser Drive.

"As part of the scheme the entrance signs to the 20mph were designed by pupils from the school and were incorporated into the sign design to make the School feel part over the overall process.

"Councillor John Holland was the main driver behind the scheme and outlined it as his main priority for school improvements within the Warwick area for financial year 2019/2020."

Although signs are currently in place, the actual restriction of speed limit does not come into affect until March 27.
