Police and crime commissioner election results awaited

COUNTING for the Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner election takes place at 11am today (Friday) with the result due to be announced this afternoon.

James Plaksitt, representing the Labour Party, Fraser Pithie, for the Conservatives, and Independent Ron Ball are the three candidates.

The turnout for the county was 15.65 per cent which is below the estimated national figure of 18.5 per cent.

This would be below the previous record low in a national poll in peacetime of 23 per cent in the 1999 European elections according to a prediction by The Electoral Reform Society.

However the turnout for Warwick District was 19.50 per cent.

The turnout for Stratford district was 17.94 per cent while in Rugby Borough 15.31 per cent of those eligible cast their vote.

In North Warwickshire the turnout was 12.29 per cent and in Nuneaton & Bedworth it was 11.27 per cent.
