The woman laid out a map on a car and asked for directions to Hereford, which the victim believes was a deliberate distraction so an accomplice could steal her credit card, which was later used to steal cash and goods worth more tan £1,000.

Further thefts have been reported at supermarkets in Warwick. See Friday’s Warwick Courier for details.

A similar incident took place at Tesco supermarket in Birmingham Road, Stratford on October 5 at around 11.30am.

Pc Dave Valente of Warwickshire Police said this was not thieves’ only method, and that criminals had also stolen bank cards from a woman after offering to help her pump up the tyres of her car.

He added: “Distraction thieves just need to distract you for a few moments so they or an accomplice can steal from your pockets, handbag or car.”
