The three MPs are urging the Government to act.

"It provides us with high-skilled, well-paid jobs and contributes significantly throughout our local economy.

"With production and sales grinding to a halt in April and May - the best part of two months - the sector is facing major challenges.

"The industry estimates that 1 in 6 jobs could be lost if no further support is given.

"This would simply be devastating for our area.

“We need the automotive sector to help us in our economic recovery.

"By creating jobs in new sectors such as electric vehicles, we can also build back greener.

"I have been calling for measures such as targeted additional furlough and a vehicle scrappage scheme to help stimulate demand and at the same time get new, cleaner vehicles on our roads and improving our air.

“I’m doing all I can to urge the Government to announce an economic package to help save thousands of jobs and hep our community return to prosperity”
