Saddle-sore riders raise more than £40,000 for research by cycling from

ALMOST £40,000 has been raised by a team of intrepid cyclists who rode more than 900 miles in aid of an expectant mother who has a rare cancer.

Murray West, sales director of Fuel Recruitment UK in Leamington, has the saddle sores to show the full bruising course from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

Sadly, his manging director boss, Mark Esom, had to pull out half-way through the ride after developing a knee injury.

Murray said: “Our target was to raise as much money as possible to be divided between the Get Ahead charity based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with half ring-fenced specifically for research into the rare cancer known as Adenoid Cystic Carcnoma.”

It is this condition that expectant mother of twins Mel Jaggard is suffering from.

Mel’s husband, Charlie, was among the six end-to-end riders who completed the full course with seven-months pregnant Mel cheering them all on from the support vehicle.

The couple, who live in London, have long been friends of Mr Esom who also helped recruit lots of other riders to join them for an 80 mile day.
