Shadow minister backs marketing at Leamington firm

He was accompanied by Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Warwick and Leamington, Lynnette Kelly - and both also visited Encraft in Leamington, where they launched Ms Kelly’s local business survey.

Businesses across the Warwick and Leamington constituency are being invited to take part in the survey, which aims to give them the chance to voice their needs and concerns.

Mr Perkins said: “It is great to see Parliamentary candidates like Lynnette Kelly going out there and listening to the business community. This survey shows that Labour is in touch with the concerns of companies who are finding things tough in the current economic climate.”

Mr Perkins is currently looking into how the Government promotes and boosts sales skills. His visit to McCurrach - which delivers sales and marketing for Microsoft - forms part of that investigation.

He said: “Currently less than on per cent of apprenticeships are offered in sales and the profession is often derided in popular culture. However, sales offers a great career for those who are not necessarily academic high achievers, with over two million people employed in sales in the UK.

“If the Government and businesses can promote this valuable skill, we will equip many young people with valuable transferable skills and give British business a competitive advantage.”
