Slideshow: More than 1,000 at town’s fun day

More than 1,000 people descended on Whitnash on Sunday to enjoy a variety of activities and entertainment as Whitnash Fun Day returned to the town.

Some 40 runners took to the roads in the hot weather to take part in the three-mile Cavin Woodward Memorial Race, in memory of former Whitnash man and world record-breaking ultra distance runner Cavin Woodward. Coming in first was Leamington C&AC runner Dean Mawby in 16 mins 21 secs, while the first woman crossing the finish line was Kimberley Fryer, in 27 mins 8 secs.

All the fun of the carnival returned to Whitnash, with a traditional procession made up of 148 Brownies, Rainbows and Guides who had worked hard on creating floats, accompanied by St Joseph’s Irish Music Band. The prize for the best float went to the 1st Warwick Gates Brownies.

Added to all of this, the day included a cake baking competition, car boot sale, falconry display, ferret racing, Punch and Judy, bouncy castle, laser quest, go carts, archery and frisbee golf, while Whitnash Primary School also hosted a summer fair.
