Support for charity’s Indian school

The school held a non-uniform day in aid of the Gilly Mundy Community School in Buwan Kothi in the northern Indian state of Haryana, which has been up and running since 2008 after £52,000 was raised by the Buwan Kothi International Trust (BKIT). The charity, which works on rural regeneration in the state, had been established by former Campion pupil Gilly Mundy, who had died unexpectedly the previous year at the age of 36.

In autumn last year, two teachers from the Gilly Mundy school visited Campion and, according to BKIT India chairman and Warwickshire county councillor Mota Singh, they were very impressed with what they saw. The Leamington pupils and staff then decided to do what they could to help the Indian school raise £50,000 to complete the final stage of building work.

Cllr Singh, father to Mr Mundy and former governor at Campion, said: “It is hoped that close links will be developed between the two schools. Gilly was a very popular student at Campion.”
