Suspended sentence for ASBO breach dog owner

The offender, who lives at Eden Court, received a 14-day sentence, suspended for six months, at a recent hearing.

Dave Ward, Warwick District Council’s housing manager, said: “In this case the Court were determined to address the tenant’s breach of an anti-social behaviour injunction which had previously been granted and prevented the keeping of a dog in a flat. By continuing to keep the dog, the tenant was held in contempt of the Court. If a dog is found to be at the property again, the tenant will be arrested and imprisoned.

“This sends out a clear message to tenants who persist in keeping dogs in flats in contravention of their Tenancy Agreement. The Council will take effective action against those who fail to maintain the terms of their Tenancy Agreement.”

PC Dennis Quinlan, beat manager for North Leamington Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: ‘This is an excellent result and another positive example of how Warwickshire Police and partner agencies are working closely together to protect our diverse communities. We will seek to utilise every legitimate means at our disposal to target those individuals who are intent on committing crime and anti-social behaviour”

The council is urging anyone who knows of a dog being kept in a flat to call 412828.
