The eagle has landed... on our rooftop!

DELIGHTED children were in awe last Friday when they saw a bird of prey from Warwick Castle sitting beside their chimney.

The bald eagle, called Sydney, escaped the castle grounds and headed for Red Lane in Burton Green at around 4.30pm.

Becky Eden, who saw the bird, said: “I had to do a couple of takes because I thought I was being daft.

“But then my neighbours came out and we all realised it actually was a bird of prey.

“My five-year-old daughter Annabelle and I had seen the bird a week earlier when we visited the castle, so when Annabelle and her friends saw it again in their road they were so excited.

“We called the castle and a falconer came to collect the bird at around 6.30pm.

“He said she had stayed in the same place for so long because she had feasted.”

Falconer Paul Reeves added: “Sydney has been part of Hawk Experience since birth 23 years ago and has been a loyal and dedicated flyer the whole time we’ve been at Warwick Castle. We’re not sure exactly why she decided to take a detour to Burton Green during our Flight of the Eagles show – working in the tourism industry has obviously given her a taste for sightseeing.

“We’re delighted to have her return home so quickly and safely and hope that she didn’t alarm any of the residents, but rather gave them a chance to admire her beauty while perched on the rooftops.”
