Thousands enjoy walk

MORE than 2,000 people took part in a 12-mile charity walk from Warwick to Coventry to raise money for a children’s charity on Sunday.

The Mercia Walk of Warwickshire raised £55,312 for the Snowball Appeal, a good cause which helps youngsters who are sick or needy.

The appeal, set up by Mercia Radio and the Coventry Telegraph newspaper, began in 1985 and has provided vital equipment for thousands of children over the years.

In temperatures hotter than Miami, walkers followed a route from Warwick to University Square in Coventry via Kenilworth.

Katie Southwell, of Coventry University, said: “We’re delighted to have been a part of the Walk of Warwickshire.

“The atmosphere at the finish line on University Square was electric.

“It was great to see such a cross section of the local community coming together to raise an enormous amount of money for a local charity.

“Well done to all walkers.”
