Tourism ‘hub’ at court house

Councillors on the district council’s executive committee have approved plans to pool the visitor information services for Warwick, Leamington, Kenilworth and surrounding villages into a central point, in efforts to provide a more streamlined approach and to cut down on costs.

Speaking at the executive meeting last Wednesday, Cllr Bill Gifford, representing the council’s overview and scrutiny committee, said: “Warwick clearly has some very substantial tourist venues. It has also the expertise there. We hope that expertise will be used to send people to Leamington and Kenilworth as well.”

Representing the Warwick North ward of the district, Cllr Stephen Cross said: “We are looking at making the whole district attractive for everybody, not just visitors.”

The council plans to consult with Leamington Town Council on its plans, which include cutting the opening hours of the current tourist information service at the Pump Room in Leamington from 41 to 25 hours a week – while establishing a new ‘one stop shop’ in the town to provide people with information.
