Over the weekend a group of eight caravans parked on land next to Mollington Grove in the village.

“The land is in public ownership and, as a result, possession proceedings have been initiated,” said a spokesperson for Warwick District Council.

“Local councils are required by law to operate a toleration policy in their processes for moving such groups off land they control, and take into account any welfare issues they discover.

“The travellers on the site have already been served with an initial notice to leave, and the council’s solicitors are in the process of obtaining a court date to obtain a possession order.

“In addition, police have powers under the Public Order Act to move such encampments at short notice where a senior police officer believes the powers should be used.”

The arrival of the travellers has angered local residents. One said: “We aren’t taking it.” Another said: “Local children who usually play on the green are no longer able to do so.”
