Tribute to Barford widower killed in road accident

THE family of a Barford man killed in a road accident near Shipston-on-Stour have paid tribute to a “popular and knowledgeable” man.

Peter Branson, 81, died after a crash near Burmington, Shipston on Stour on Wednesday.

The former Automotive Products worker had lived in Barford for 50 years and in a statement released through Warwickshire Police his family described him as “well known and popular”.

They said: “Since his retirement from Automotive Products and the death of his wife Eunice, he was frequently seen on his daily walks around the village.

“He would be only too willing to stop for a chat with other village folk. He always appreciated a good joke.

“He was an avid reader and knowledgeable about many subjects but particularly motor cars and commercial vehicles.

“He will be remembered by many but especially by his son, daughter in law, grandchildren and local family.”

Police investigating the crash are still appealing for witnesses.

Mr Branson’s silver Mitsubishi Space Wagon was travelling towards Shipston in the A3400 when it was in collision with a white and blue articulated lorry traveling in the opposite direction outside Mitford Bridge House at around 11.40am.

The pensioner was airlifted by Air Ambulance to University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire but later died of his injuries.

Early witness reports indicate that several vehicles drove through the scene before it was closed by police.

Officers would be interested to hear from any of those drivers as they may be able to provide information relating to the collision.
