Update: Two trapped after crash on M40

A VAN driver was airlifted to hospital and his passenger was injured after his vehicle crashed off the M40 near Warwick this morning (Wednesday August 24).

His van had left the road and crashed down an embankment between junctions 16 and 15 at around 10.25am, trapping the two men inside.

Firefighters worked for 45 minutes to free the driver, a man in his 20s who suffered head, chest and back injuries. He was flown by the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance to University Hospital, Coventry.

His passenger, also a man in his 20s, was treated for a shoulder injury and taken by ambulance to Warwick Hospital.

Fire crews from Leamington, Henley-in-Arden and Stratford worked at the scene together with police, ambulance crews and an air ambulance.
