Villagers voice their concerns over plan for up to 150 homes

Hundreds of people in Hampton Magna near Warwick have signed a petition against the Local Plan amid fears of how it will affect the village.

The village has been earmarked as a possible site for up to 150 new homes as part of Warwick District Council’s development strategy.

More than 830 villagers have objected strongly to the proposal on grounds it could compromise greenbelt land and the character of the village.

They say the scale of the plans are inappropriate in relation to the village’s existing population and that, contrary to the plan’s assertions, services in the village do not need sustaining through population growth.

They also say more families would create more traffic congestion and danger to pedestrians and that they are against the compulsory purchase of private land to facilitate gypsy sites.

The petition was presented to ward councillor Clare Sawdon (Con, Budbrooke) on Wednesday.
