Warwick District Council Election 2015: Tories hoping for another majority

The Tories had a majority of 25 of the 46 seats on the council after the last election in 2011 with the Liberal Democrats having nine and Labour with eight.

Whitnash Residents Association, whose leader Bernard Kirton has stood down at district level, had three while the one Independent councillor who had a seat for the Stoneleigh, Bertie Mackay, died recently.

The results are set to be announced after noon.

Yesterday (Friday) Conservative candidate Chris White secured a considerable majority to be {http://www.leamingtoncourier.co.uk/news/local-news/video-chris-white-welcomes-victory-amid-tory-gains-1-6734566 voted back in as the MP for Warwick and Leamington}.

Meanwhile Jeremy Wright (Conservative) won by a landslide in the election for the Kenilworth and Southam seat.

Nationally the Tories secured an overall majority of 12 with 331 seats on what was a bad day for Labour whose leader Ed Miliband resigned after the party, whose Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls also stood down after losing his seat, was crushed in Scotland with the Scottish National Party taking 56 of the 59 seats.

The Liberal Democrats also suffered a big loss, winning only eight seats and losing 49 on a day when the party’s leader Nick Clegg resigned.

UKIP leader Nigel Farage was another of the day’s casualties as he failed to gain the seat of Thanet South.
