Warwick district friends impressed by Bo’s recovery after ebola

John Archer, Philip Clarke and Richard Hall from the Warwick district branch of One World Link (OWL) made a trip to Bo last month following the official declaration that Sierra Leone was free from ebola.

The three men visited Bo City Council offices and met the mayor Harold Tucker, who had visited the UK in 2014, as well as the council chairman Joseph Bindi, to discuss how they could assist the council develop its local governance skills.

John Archer, OWL chairman, said: “We saw the washing facilities and waste collection points that had been established at local schools to assist during the ebola crisis, paid for by the generous donations of Warwick district residents.

“We were impressed by the progress being made on the major waste collection and recycling project in the city which had continued throughout the crisis.”

John, Philip and Richard also visited schools and the children’s hospital and had discussions with local organisations and individuals.

John added: “It was a very successful visit and it was heartening to see the continuity of local life after the challenges of the last year or so.

“We were very impressed to see how the people of Bo had risen to the challenge of recovery after ebola. Many things remain to be improved in a country with so many problems, but the people we met were positive and keen to make progress. We hope to keep playing a part in that.”
