Warwick district to be part of ’City Deal’

WARWICK district could benefit from a share of £1 billion being invested in economic growth as plans for entering into a ‘city deal’ take shape.

Councillors on the district council’s executive have agreed to work with other councils in Warwickshire, Coventry and other areas in the Midlands on a bid to the Government to be chosen as one of 20 new deals.

Officials say the proposal would look at investing in the Royal Showground redevelopment in Stoneleigh, the proposed Coventry Gateway around the airport, the University of Warwick’s expansion, the development of Honiley airfield, the Ford Foundry site development and Old Town regeneration in Leamington, the Warwick town centre action plan and proposals for the mere and town centre in Kenilworth.

Officers say that a deal could attract an investment of £1 billion. Deputy chief executive Bill Hunt will be working on the proposal over the next few months.
