Warwick girls at Round Oak School rise to the challenge

GIRLS at a special school in Warwick got active last week when they tried their hands at a range of sports.

Round Oak School held a Girls Active Day which gave the pupils chance to have a go at archery, wheelchair basketball and a climbing wall.

They also donned bright pink Girls Active T-shirts for the day.

School sports coordinator Jayne Johnson said: “We’re a sports college so sports is quite a big thing to us.

“We decided to have a girls active day which involved all of the girls here, which is about 120.

“They really enjoyed it. It challenged all different types of issues some students might have, like not liking height, and they really rose to the challenge. There was a great element of supporting each other as well, so it worked really well.”

The school are also hoping to start a wheelchair basketball club at Warwickshire College which will be open to both wheelchair and non-wheelchair users. They are also looking for donations towards the specialist wheelchairs.
