Warwick schoolgirl remembered through launch of charity which provides little acts of kindness

Eveyln’s Gift was launched at the Warwick Arms Hotel recently and included a fashion show from retailer Ostrich Pink, a raffle and an auction of promises which all helped to raise £3,760 for the cause.

The aims of the charity are two fold - to train as many people as possible in CPR and lifesaving and also provide little acts of kindness to people in need.

Evelyn’s mum Helen said: “The loss of Evelyn has devastated her family and friends. My

family and I are deeply moved by the incredible support that we have experienced from local

people and businesses, especially the whole team at the Warwick Arms Hotel, Ostrich Pink and

John Taylor Funeral Service.

“I would like to thank the many businesses and individuals who offered prizes for our raffle and auction, enabling us to raise this huge sum of money.

“Evelyn was a very loving and fun person and wanted other people to be happy too. The idea of ‘little acts of kindness’ is a truly fitting tribute to her.”

The charity has already trained CPR to hundreds of local people and teachers through local

Primary Schools.

It is also providing the training to secondary schools, nurseries and community groups.

The training is provided in conjunction with the British Heart Foundation’s HeartStart scheme.

Its “little acts of kindness” include work with women’s refuges and Myton Hospice.

Refuge has received handmade Christmas stockings, presents for women and children, toiletries and baking equipment.

The charity has also assisted Myton Hospice by providing handmade wash bags filled with toiletries which are used in their new family rooms on site, as well as for patients.

The idea behind the little acts of kindness is to do the little thoughtful and kind things that are often not able to be funded by others, but which can make a big difference to people’s lives.

From money raised, Evelyn’s Gift has now been able to order desperately needed towels for

Refuge.

It has also contacted the Night Shelter in Radford Road, Leamington, with the intention of providing it with toiletries.

Members are also working on a large project which involves providing packs of resources to support bereaved children through primary schools.

Since the charity’s launch, a further £153 has been raised from collections at the Tap and Groove dance show.

Evelyn died unexpectedly in September 2013 as the result of a viral and bacterial infection of her upper respiratory tract, which doctors had missed opportunities to diagnose and treat appropriately.
