Warwickshire girls lead the way with Oxbridge offers

Stratford Girls’ Grammar School has much to celebrate with Oxbridge offers given to nine pupils as well as the school making the top ten in the Times newspaper’s national listings.

The Oxbridge offers include two places for Engineering and three places for History, as well as Maths, Languages, Law and Psychology.

Among the nine pupils are Kenilworth’s Lucy Staves who is to read Law at Oxford whereas, Kate Bassil from Leamington and Hannah May from Warwick are Cambridge-bound to study Engineering.

Joining her friends in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) will be Warwick’s Abi Riley who will starting life as a Maths undergraduate.

Offers have been received by students to study at other universities covering a broad range of subjects.

Head of Sixth Form at Stratford Girls’ Grammar School, Ms Emma Bell, said: “We are always truly proud of the diversity of talents amongst our sixth form.

“This year is no different.

“With places secured at Russell Group universities, conservatoires and positions with Higher Level Apprenticeship providers, our girls prove that any door is open to them after being in the sixth form here.

Headteacher Mrs Jacqueline Cornell added: “With GCSEs taking on prominence again with university admissions departments, we are delighted for the girls.

“The Year 13 offers and the 2016 GCSE results show that Stratford Girls’ Grammar School girls excel in all areas.”

The offers received from Oxford are Imogen Horton (History); Jade Spencer and Rosie Williamson (History and Politics); Tess Eastgate (Languages); Lucy Staves (Law). Students offered places at Cambridge colleges are Kate Bassil and Hannah May (Engineering), Abi Riley (Maths), Vicky Simkin (Psychology).
