Your guide to events at Kenilworth Festival

KENILWORTH Festival kicks off this weekend with a musical bang and will continue to deliver a variety of events for more than a week.

OSJB will perform at the Holiday Inn tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30pm, and at the same time an Uyogo Concert will take place at St Johns church.

The following day Super Car Sunday will be held at the Almanack in Abbey End.

On the same day Peter Baxter will talk about his latest book The Best Views from the Boundary at Kenilworth Cricket Club at 4pm.

On Monday Kenilworth screenwriter Andrew Davies will chat to an audience in the Monaco Room at the Holiday Inn at 7.30pm and at the same time the Voxtops will perform at the Priory theatre.

At 7.45pm on Monday Shakespeare Connections will also take place at the Senior Citizens Club in Southbank Road.

There will be a talk by local photographer Peter Moore at the Holiday Inn on Tuesday at 7.30pm, and at the same time Nell Gwynn will perform at the Talisman theatre.

At 7.30pm on Wednesday The Popes - A History will take place at Kenilworth Castle Stables and Romany Pie will be performed at the Priory Theatre. Chinewrde will also perform in the town centre on Wednesday.

To keep Kenilworth entertained during festival week Earl Cameron, a Hollywood film star who lives in the town, will give a talk about his life, at the Holiday Inn on Thursday at 7.30pm. On the same day, UB42 + All Skas will perform at the Construction Centre Festival Marquee at 8pm, and a Barbecue and Big Band event will take place at Kenilworth Golf Club at 7pm.

The fun continues on Friday May 13 at a Fairtrade Fashion Evening at The Kings Table in Warwick Road at 7pm. On the same evening at 7.30pm Lucy Worsley, chief curator at historic royal palaces, will talk about her latest book at the Kenilworth Castle stables.

Also on Friday May 13 a PHAB Barn Dance will take place at Kenilworth School at 7.30pm, a Wartime Supper Dance is at the Festival Marquee in Abbey Fields at 7.30pm, and an Art Show will be open at the Holiday Inn from 10am to 7pm.

On Saturday May 14, the Art Show will stay open from 10am to 5pm at the Holiday Inn and Chinewrde will dance in the town centre again.

A Fun Run also takes place in Abbey Fields. The 10k run starts at 10am, the family run starts at midday and the schools’ run starts at 12.30pm.

A continental market will be set up in Warwick Road from 9am to 5pm and a food fair will be run in Abbey Fields from 10am to 3.30pm.

Later that evening at 7.30pm the University of Warwick String Orchestra will perform at St Johns church, a Classical Guitar Recital will be held at Kenilworth Methodist church, and a Johnny Cash Tribute will play in the Festival Marquee in Abbey Fields.

To bring the festival to a close on Sunday May 15, Party in the Park will take over Abbey Fields. This free event will have the Rotary Sedan Chair Race at 12.30pm, three music stages, lots of stalls, children’s rides, crafts fair and a military band.

On the main stage, BBC Coventry and Warwickshire will present a line-up of musicians including The Quiet Man, The Leam-Jazz Collective, Acoustic Edge, The Suspects, The Session and The Lamps. There will also be children’s sports, a puppet show, donkey rides, sports, fairground rides, a teddy bears’ picnic with the festival’s very own Kenny the Bear, and a Toy and Craft Fair in the Construction Centre Festival Marquee.

The art show will continue at the Holiday Inn from 10am to 3pm, and at 7.30pm that evening the Coventry Male Voice Choir will perform at St Nicholas’ church, and Steve Walwyn, Wes Finch & Kirsty Gallagher will perform in the Festival Marquee in Abbey Fields.
