Making council accountable

I write in response to the letter from Roger Smith, Labour Party, Warwick Branch (Letters, January 23) asking why Cllr Bromley, an independent councillor, needs a group leader.

Mr Smith, independent councillors are free from tired old party politics. At local elections voters should have a choice to vote for a hard-working local independent candidate and not a political party member so their voice can be heard.

Mr Smith, you well know that come the district council elections in May with the potential increase in independent councillors being elected, the reality is this will have an impact at last on decision making, with more accountability and officers held to account for their actions by independent councillors, which is long overdue.
