Chahal helps Leamington C&AC to a winning start in the Gloucester League

Leamington C&AC’s under-17 men made a superb start to the Gloucester League, winning the opening race at Cotswold Farm Park on Saturday.

Kieran Chahal was seventh in 17min 24sec, with Alex Ibbs (9th in 17:41) and Greg West (10th in 17:48) completing the scoring.

Ben Illsley was 16th in 21:18.

Chahal was again in action the following day, finishing 13th in 18:37 as the under-17s secured an excellent third place behind Birchfield Harriers in the West Midlands League at Abington Park in Northampton.

Competing in one of the strongest leagues in the country, Dan Wilkinson was ninth in 18:18, with Sam Wadsworth (15th in 19:05) completing the scoring team.

Leamington’s under-13 girls showed their strength in depth with eighth place at Abingdon Park. Emily Lovett (38th in 11:19), Molly Minshull (51st in 11:46), Issie Fairhurst (53rd in 11:48), Alice Parsons (64th in 11:59) and Ana Lovett (77th in 12:14) were the scorers.

Under-11 Melanie Gould had a very good weekend, clocking 6:06 for sixth place in the Gloucester League and following it up with 7:37 for 11th in the stronger West Midlands League.

Younger brother James, competing just three days after his eighth birthday, finished a creditable 39th in 6:18 in his first-ever race.

Kenilworth Runners’ youth section made a promising start to their debut West Midlands campaign.

Under-11 Harry Bailey had the honour of being their first-ever runner in the competition, crossing the line a fine 57th.

The under-13 boys secured Kenilworth’s best team placing of the day, finishing 11th courtesy of Nathan Chapple (57th), Charlie Glover (78th ) and Jacob Watson (64th).

The under 15 boys - Felix (47th ) and Oliver Lunn (54th ) and Oliver Flippance (76th) - were 12th.

In the under-11 girls’ competition, Florence Lunn was 41st with sister Tabitha 74th, while Elspeth and Sophie Stratton were 99th and 126th, respectively, in the under-13 girls’ event.

Kenilworth Runners’ Stephen Page finished an impressive 11th in the men’s race in 32:01.

Phil Gould (32:24) was 15th, helping the men’s team to fourth overall out of 23 completed teams.

Leamington C&AC were 13th, with George Loveday (50th in 35:31) and Craig Bower (60th in 35:55) their leading performers.

Angela Chahal (26:58) was the leading local lady in the women’s event, with her 18th-place finish helping Leamington C&AC to seventh place.

Jenny Jeeves (33rd in 28:14) and Faye Barr (64th in 30:24) were the other scorers.

Laura Gould (30:49) was the first lady home for Kenilworth, with cross-country debutant Sally Evans (31:20) close behind.
