Coleman can be all smiles at Warwick

Jockey Aidan Coleman, who was the victim of an assault in the weighing room at Southwell on Tuesday, could be in for a happier time at Warwick tomorrow when he has a good chance of winning the last two races with Off The Ground and Atlantic Gold, writes David Hucker.

Off The Ground, formerly trained by Emma Lavell, won two races on the bounce at Doncaster at the end of 2013, but rather lost his way after that and was last seen when pulling up behind Menorah in the Bet365 Oaksey Chase at Sandown Park in April.

He carries top weight in the £10,000 Colliers International Rating Division Handicap Chase, but is on a winning mark of 134 if recapturing his best form for Over Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon, for whom Coleman rode out six horses on Wednesday morning before going to get his damaged teeth repaired.

Richard Johnson was on board American Legend when he won at Worcester in July and the combination could give Off The Ground most to do from the bottom of the handicap.

Just five line up for the Warwick Racecourse Supporting Racing To School Maiden Hurdle and the consistent Atlantic Gold, runner-up to The Road Ahead last time out, should gain her first win and bring up Coleman’s double.

Canicallyouback is the choice from two entries for trainer Evan Williams in the opening Ignite Incentives “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle over two miles and he can get back to winning ways after finishing second to the useful Regulation at the last meeting.

Hurdles debutants Abbreviate and Inchiquin All Star look the main dangers.

Dormouse, trained at Wilmcote by Anabel Murphy, has not been seen out since falling at the penultimate flight at Kempton Park in April, but could record a fourth course win in the 2015 Dealer Principal Event Handicap Hurdle, another race with a guaranteed prize fund of £10,000.

Although his last win was ten months ago, Dormouse is back down to a rating of 118, just 1lb higher than for that success and has an each-way chance in what looks a competitive contest.

Handsome Buddy, owned and trained by Michael Gates at Clifford Chambers, should go well in the Hague Print Management Handicap Chase. He scored at Worcester 13 months ago with tomorrow’s jockey Mickey Hamill on board and is back close to his winning handicap mark.

But, the vote goes to Badgers Retreat, who did well to be beaten just a head by Court Of Law at the last meeting after Gavin Sheehan’s saddled slipped, his best effort since gaining back-to-back victories in the spring of 2013. He races off the same mark of 94 tomorrow.

Top Spin was pulled out late on from races at Stratford and Newton Abbot because of rain-softened ground, but he should get his conditions this time in the Ken Muir Memorial Handicap Hurdle.
