Commonwealth gold for Frith

Viv Frith from Salle Ursa Fencing Club claimed a gold and a bronze in the women’s sabre category at the Commonwealth Veteran Championships, held in Singapore.

Frith from Stretton-under-Fosse, who trains at the club’s Warwick base, beat opponents from Australia, Singapore, England and Wales to win her age group, while coming third across all the categories.

Frith has been fencing with Salle Ursa since 2005 and leads the club’s junior and senior fencing classes in Rugby.

Her coach Peter Rome was delighted with Frith’s performance, calling her ‘an inspiration’.

“Viv is such a worthy winner and I am very proud of her,” said Rome.

“She has achieved this fantastic result through her commitment and dedication to training and her efforts came to fruition - an inspiration to us all.”

Frith will travel to Austria later this month to participate in the Veteran World Championships.
