Rowe’s four-wicket haul is wasted

KENILWORTH had the better of a draw against neighbours Highway in a rain affected match that saw the Town lose 13 overs.

Highway posted a challenging 271-5 off their 50 overs thanks to Sandhu who smoted 106 runs and Butt 67 as they shared in a 130 run 2nd wicket partnership. Thornton added 30 whilst Dave Edmunds held 3 sharp outfield catches. Gregg Peebles took 2-68 for the Town, whilst there was a wicket a piece for veterans Pete Alty and Geoff Edmunds and spinner James Nason.

Due to the rain break, the Town were never going to win the match and set their eyes on the winning draw target of 201. Dave Edmunds hit 45, Mitch Lowe 32 and Mark Deeley 23.

It was left to Adie Sellar 17 not out and Mike Watts 7* to see them surpass the set target as they reached 207-6 in the last over of the match despite the best efforts of Highway’s Lee Bourne who took 5-72.

Warwick fell to a heavy defeat at Pak Shaheen in Division One

Batting first the hosts amassed 223-9 thanks largely to a 75-run third wicket partnership between Manazar (63) and Dubey (25).

James Wynn-Evans then took 2 wickets in an over to slow Pak Shaheen’s progress but Hussain boosted the total with a brisk 42*. Skipper Paul Rowe was the most successful Warwick bowler with 4-64 and Wynn-Evans and Steve Dyer took 2 wickets each.

In reply Warwick struggled against the accuracy of Riaz (3-22) and once the opening pair of Jamie Coleman (14) and Steve Dyer (13) were dismissed wickets fell at regular intervals as Warwick subsided to 103 all out with Ross Briscoe and Steve Smith the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Southam hit an impressive 307 for the loss of only three wickets to take 24 points at home to Bronze. Calcutt scored 153 for the hosts who then bowled out Bronze for 139 with T Wilkins (4-25) the most successful bowler.

Offchurch/Lapworth hit 237 - 7 buthad to settle for a draw against Barby who amassed 162-4 in reply.

Hunningham slumped to a dismal ten-wicket defeat at Five Ways Old Eds in Division 4.

Batting first, the visitors were dismissed for just 108 with only Jake Hills (21) showing any resistance with the bat as D Jones (5-34) did the damage with the ball for the hosts .

Five Ways made light work of chasing down Hunningham’s total with Ahmed (75) leading the unbeaten innings.

Leamington Khalsa battled hard to gain a losing draw iagainst Star Coventry in Divison Five.

Khalsa won the toss and elected to bowl first but Star got off to a positive start with Ritesh (41) and Aravind (116) scoring freely on a good batting track and took the hosts past the century mark without losing a wicket.

It took a good spell of bowing from Aman Kalsi (5-93) to pull Khalsa back into the game.

With wickets in hand, Star were able to keep up the momentum. Two late wickets from Nadeem were not enough to stop Star crossing the 300 mark, eventually ending the innings on 312-7.

Rain interrupted the Khalsa innings and they had the uphill task of chasing the daunting total inside 40 overs.

They made a cautious start with Nadeem (41) playing a sensible knock, but were soon in trouble as wickets started to fall as the pitch began to deteriorate.

From 62-1 Khalsa slumped to 108-9.

It was left to the tail to try and salvage a draw from the game.

Tejpal Dulay (50no) and Ashu Sharma (8no) batted out of there skins under intense pressure to keep Khalsa in the game, and eventually batted out for a draw.

Skipper Indy Kalsi said he will be looking for an improved batting performance when they host Wilnecote on Saturday.

Warwick 2nds game with Nuneaton had to be abandoned due to rain with only one innings completed.

Nuneaton won the toss and elected to bat posting 232 all out. Cox and Knight both struck half centuries while Harris (31) and Neale (27) also made useful contributions.

Warwick’s slow bowlers Jorg Singh 5-53 and Dave Griffith 2-55 performed well and Gary Hammersley and Jagdeep Khurana took one wicket each.

Kenilworth 2nds came unstuck on a poor wicket to lose the match by 2 wickets at Solihull Municipal. The posted 142-9 on a difficult track with Mark Stranks top scoring with 55 and colt Matt Bolshaw 25 as Stanley took 4-35 and Alkton 3-32 for the hosts.

Municipal also struggled with the pitch conditions but Roslyn made 57 and Bissett 22 as they sneaked over the winning line on 143-8.

Town’s Andy Kennell took 3-20 whilst there was a wicket each for Tom Kane and colts Bolshaw, George Boylin and Phil Edmonds.

A solid batting display by Reason and a five-wicket haul by Webber helped Hunningham 2nds to take ten points from a losing draw at Home to Five Ways Old Edwardians.

Putting the visitors into bat first Hunningham, met strong resistance from Jones (70), Ahmed (66) before Webber (5-24) helped to bowl Five Ways out for 263.

Rain interrupted the game but when they came into bat Hunningham were put under pressure by James (4-36).

But Reason’s sturdy unbeaten 55 ensured Hunningham finished on 174-8.

Warwick 3rds slipped to a 103 run defeat against Four Oak Saints. Four Oaks batted first and made a solid start thanks to Khan 37, Brown 25 and Wardell 24 as they looked to post a formidable total.

Warwick rallied with Andy Lippett 4-60 and Tom Austin 3-48 combining well to dismiss the visitors for 186. Ishmail Khan also claimed 2 wickets.

Warwick’s reply started badly despite the best efforts of Sandeep Chatterjee 24 as Cragg and Akhtar shared six wickets to dismiss Warwick for 80.

Newly reformed Leek Wootton 2nds continued their great start to their debut season in Division 3 East away at Fillongley 3rds.

Captain Mackenzie was hoping to win the toss and bowl first, due to having a weakened batting line up this week, but he needn’t have worried.

Wootton were put into the field and their young attack bowled the hosts out for 150 in 35 overs with wickets from every bowler and 2 wickets each for Budd and Bailey and Jugjit Chima getting 3 for 9 on his debut.

After losing an early wicket, Wootton got into their stride.

C Bailey (85 not out) and A Garman 27 not out put on a unbeaten 144 for the second wicket to take Wootton to a fifth win out of six games.

Warwick 4ths were beaten in a high scoring game at Peugeot.

The hosts declared after 45 overs with the score on 254-8 with Latham 85 and Zaman 55 making the most significant contributions. Ash Tomar boweld well for Warwick claiming 4-30.

In reply Warwick were dismissed for 203 in the 53rd over. Baz Mohammed 42 and Matt Warren 30 played excellent innings and skipper John Hough struck a defiant 38 as Warwick fell just short of claiming the draw.
