A cup too far for proud Westlea

The game started in cagey fashion with both teams assessing each other.

The first chance of the game came when Josh Cole unleashed a stunning 30-yard drive which forced the Acre goalkeeper into a top-class save.

Westlea looked like they were getting on top in the game but, against the run of play, Hundred Acre took the lead through the excellent Richard Gregory when 
he headed home from a free-kick.

Hundred Acre then started to get on top without troubling Neil Stacey in goal.

However, further chances fell for Westlea with the goalkeeper again making a great save from a Ross Briscoe header.

The scoreline stayed the same until half-time but the second period began in disastrous fashion for Westlea when Carisma Agbonlahor – brother of Aston Villa’s Gabby – pounced on a defensive mix up to make it 2-0.

Westlea rallied again and pulled a goal back through Jamie Coleman and for the next 15 minutes it was one-way traffic.

Westlea went close through Coleman and Briscoe but the game-changing moment came against the run of play again when Gregory drilled home from a tight angle to make it 3-1.

This knocked the stuffing out of Westlea and Hundred Acre capitalised with two more quick goals.

Jamie Coleman pulled one back before the end but the 5-2 scoreline was very harsh on Westlea.

The game was much closer than the score suggests and the main difference was the finishing of Hundred Acre striker Gregory who got his hat-trick and picked up the man-of-the-match award.

It brought to an end another tremendous season for Westlea which all the players and management can be very proud of.

They collected their eighth successive Leamington League title and a cup double and will be looking to go one better in the Sunday Cup next year.
